Exploring Brazil: Guide to Christ the Redeemer - Seven Wonders of the World

Watch my Christ the Redeemer mini vlog here!

BRAZIL!! Home of the açaí bowl and one of the Seven Wonders of the World 😍

If you haven’t already, add it to your bucket list ASAP! Rio de Janeiro itself is an absolutely breathtaking city on the coast of Brazil and there’s SO much to see and do. But if you had to had to see one thing, this is it.

Sitting at the top of Mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro, the statue stands 125 feet tall and even has a mini chapel at the bottom of it. It’s known as the protector of the people standing at one of the highest points in Rio.

HOW TO GET THERE

Getting there: Rail train, shuttle, or hiking
Price: $15-$20 USD (R$83.00 - R$105)

There are a few ways to get up to the statue, but the most popular way is to take the train. It’s fast, easy, and gives you the best views both on the way up and down. We originally planned on driving up there and attempted to take an Uber up to the shuttles; but confusion paired with a huge language barrier, the Uber driver just ended up taking us to the train station.

You can buy the tickets online or at the ticket booth, either way is easy! The train also leaves every 30 minutes so if you arrive right when the train left, you will need to wait a bit before the next ride up. It’s a short 20 minute ride up through the forest and then it opens up to a stunning 360 view of Rio de Janeiro. It is stunning!

You can also hike up. There is a narrow path next to the train tracks starting at Parque Lage and takes 1.5 hours to get up. The hike is free but you will still need to pay to see the statue. So take your pick!

WHEN TO GO

Hours: 8 am - 7 pm daily

If you want to experience Christ the Redeemer with minimal crowds, it’s best to go on a weekday right when it opens. It starts to get busy late morning and remains busy; as it’s a popular spot to watch the sunset go down. It was pretty crowded when we got up there, but luckily there’s photoshop to edit people out of the photos.

MAKE SURE you go on a clear + sunny day. The first week we were there, we couldn’t even see it because it was rainy and cloudy. They even have a visibility camera at the train station to show how visible it is before you commit to going up. Again - it is on the top of a mountain, so clouds would role in and would disappear just as fast.

PHOTO TIP:

Even if there are crowds, the best way to get a cool photo while avoiding the busy background is to take the photo from a super low angle. This cuts out any un-wanted humans in the photo and captures the scale of the statue.

WHAT TO DO + SEE AT THE TOP

Watch the mini vlog here!

Depending on the weather, you’re able to see 360 views of Rio de Janeiro from the top. There’s actually a lot to see up there and it’s STUNNING. We even got a surprise visit by some monkeys at the top.

There’s also a small chapel inside the bottom of the statue that you can walk into and enjoy, it was pretty cool!

Other than taking in the views, there are a few souvenir shops and even a small restaurant at the top; Restaurante Corcovado.

It’s 100% worth it to visit Christ the Redeemer. Photos genuinely don’t do it justice, you just need to see it with your own eyes.

I hope you found this blog helpful and inspiring. I can’t wait to hear about your experiences, happy travels!

xo, Tris
