Cabo San Lucas | Guide to Lovers Beach

If you ever wanted to go to Mars, all you need to do is go to Cabo. Hands down, the COOLEST beach I’ve been to, and I’ve been to a lot of beaches :’)

Ahhhh, Cabo. A tourist destination located on the southern tip of the Baja California coast; it’s a perfect destination for honeymooners, vacationers, and anyone who wants to escape reality for a bit and drink some margaritas on the beach.

I’ll be honest… There isn’t much to do in Cabo that doesn’t involve the ocean or the beach. SO, if you’re gonna go to the beach, you might as well experience the coolest one.

Now you’re probably wondering… Why would you need a step-by-step guide to get to the beach. WELL, I thought the same exact thing until I realized it was a little more complicated than just walking off the resort and onto the beach. So let’s get into it!

How to Get to Lovers Beach — AKA Playa de Amor

How to get there: By boat
Price:
Approx $10-50 USD

Lovers beach isn’t accessible by foot or car. Only by boat!

Depending on the type of experience you want to get out of it, prices can range anywhere from $10-$50 USD for a water-taxi or boat tour. However, it really depends on the person and company; so prices can vary a lot depending on how much bargaining you feel like doing. The options are endless when it comes to your boat. You can pick anything from a regular motor boat, a glass-bottom boat, or even a yacht.

You can easily find a boat or water-taxi at the main Marina, or you can even catch a ride from Medano Beach. Don’t worry, there are vendors on every. single. corner. So you can’t miss the chance for a boat ride offer. Make sure you emphasize that you want to go to Lovers Beach. Some boats will just take you on the tour of the Arch and skip the beach in whole. (It happened to us)

We ended up getting a round-trip boat ride from the marina that included a tour of the famous “Arch of Cabo San Lucas”, plus a drop-off and pick-up at Lovers Beach. Overall, it cost $50 USD in total for 2 people for a “glass-bottom boat”. It wasn’t actually a glass-bottom boat, lol.

When to Get There

When to go: In the morning. Beach closes at 4 pm
Is it always accessible?
No. Depends on the current/weather/time of year
Weekend or Weekday? Weekday is best. Weekends get super busy in Cabo

Highly suggest getting going in the morning! (The beach closes at 4 pm) We left the Marina around 10 am, which was perfect.

TIP: Double check with your boat captain that you will for sure be able to get onto the beach. If you go during hurricane season (Mid May - November), there’s a smaller chance you’ll be able to get onto the beach because the current is usually more rough + choppy; making it super dangerous to get on and off the beach. We were there in August!

Since this beach is only accessibly by boat — that means you have to get dropped off and picked up at the shore. And a shore line means there is a shore break. So, most of the time it is NOT an easy drop off or pick up. Let me explain because it was a little crazy.

After a couple of days going of not being able to access the beach due to bad weather and strong currents, we we’re finally able to make it onto a boat!

Once we did the tour of the Cabo Arch, unfortunately, our first boat captain felt it was unsafe to take us to the beach (even though there were people on the beach already) SO, we ended up asking another captain to take us out there and he was very willing to help us out!

The ocean current was very rough and kind of scary getting onto the beach. You had to time it perfectly with the waves, otherwise you’d get pulled under the boat. (Thankfully there were workers on the beach helping people get on and off their boats!) You don’t have to, but we tipped them because they were super helpful.

The Beach

The beach itself is absolutely stunning.

It’s like you get transported to Mars — but tropical.

Since it’s only accessible by boat, there are little-to-no vendors on the actual beach. So make sure you bring extra water, snacks, and whatever else your heart desires. You can, however, rent an umbrella and bring it out there with you! (Highly recommended if you plan on staying a while because it was TOASTY)

On the plus side — since it’s a little harder to get to, some people won’t want to make the effort to get out there in the first place; making it way less busy than other beaches in Cabo!

If you walk through to the other side of the beach — you will find Divorce Beach (AKA Playa Divorcio).

I’m really not sure why they called it divorce beach. BUT I’m assuming it’s because that side of the beach is SUPER dangerous to swim at + the waves are crazy — hence the name.

Both sides are incredibly mesmerizing, and I would 100% do it all over again!! By far one of the coolest beaches I’ve ever seen.

Next time you’re in Cabo, set aside a day to spend it on Lover’s Beach! You won’t regret it.

bring Cabo home with you!
